'Good food is always what one looks for at any restaurant’ – but at Asha’s, we have always experienced not just good food but also caring and warm hospitality that makes us feel like going back again and again….

The launch of the Delhi to Punjab menu at their Wafi Mall branch in Dubai was an event to remember – the team at Asha’s restaurant made history with this event! It consisted of a traditional welcome of each guest with the teeka and turban-tying ceremony followed by a picture taken with the Three Indians and an Englishman backdrop. We were also welcomed with a refreshing drink – a choice of strawberry and cucumber-lemon-mint.

We tasted the following dishes from the Delhi to Punjab menu:

1. Corn soup: This buttery soup was served warm, with a side of puffed

lotus seeds. This was just what we wanted to start our meal with!

2. Bread pakora: This innovative version of the simple bread pakora was an exciting starter. It was stuffed with cheese and labneh to give it an international twist! Served with an accompanying sauce, it was satisfyingly yummy.

3. Pyaz ki chaat: Another innovative street food – a traditional, crisp and yummy onion fritter was served with smoked tropical fruits and salsa among other accompanying sauces for an international taste!

4. Palak chicken: This was very tasty – the chicken was tender and the bell peppers gave the spinach a unique flavor.

5. Dal gosht: This one was out of this world! The mutton was tender and tasty and went well with the dal base. The spices were so well-balanced that I just had to have another serving. The toasted moong dal added a crunch to this dish.

6. Dal makhani: This is one all-time favorite and signature dish at Asha’s – you cannot visit Asha’s and not taste it. A truly yummy dish which brings back nostalgic memories of the dal makhani that we usually have back home.

7. Achari chicken biryani: This was something different from the usual biryani – a delicious biryani with achari masala! The chicken was tender and tasty.

8. Shahi paneer biryani: This is a royal dish as the name suggests. The paneer was soft and the cashewnuts were crunchy. It was a combination of a paneer dish and peas pulao – talk about innovation!

Here are some other dishes from their Delhi to Punjab menu which we will surely taste on our next visit:

Amritsari Macchi

Amritsari Macchi

Tandoori Chicken

Pehlwan Biryani

We also tasted the following yummy desserts:

Ras malai: Soft dumplings in mildly sweetened milk - this was a perfect ending to a yummy meal.

Chilli chocolate: One should have a chocolate dessert among others, and this was a delicious one. The chocolate was rich and presented well too.

The starters were accompanied by live dhol performances, which gave us a real feel of Punjab. A highlight of the evening was the dance performance by the Shiamak Davar team and their students. It started off with one of Ashaji’s songs and then continued with more contemporary songs, which met with bouts of applauds by the audience. The music was truly enthralling.

All in all, this was an event to remember and will be cherished for years to come!
